Tests compared2from 2 providers, checked 29 October 2026
What it measures
Antibodies against parietal cells, the cells in the stomach lining that make acid and intrinsic factor. Intrinsic factor is needed to absorb vitamin B12. These are autoantibodies, made against the body's own cells.
Why people test it
Measured when vitamin B12 is low, to look for pernicious anaemia.
Often tested together with intrinsic factor antibodies.
Investigating autoimmune gastritis, a long-term inflammation of the stomach lining.
Typical range
There is no numeric range. The result is reported as positive or negative, and some labs add a titre. The report shows how that lab reports it.
Finger-prick or vein?
Providers offer this test only from a vein sample, taken at a clinic or by a visiting nurse.
