Botanical servings that were the whole-herb equivalent

What was wrong

Eight Simply Supplements botanicals — two ginkgos, two saw palmettos, two garlics, an ashwagandha and a grape seed — were priced on the headline milligrams on the tub, for example "6,000mg", which is the whole-herb equivalent of a concentrated extract, not what is in the tablet. The retailer's feed carries only the product title, so that number was read as the dose. Ginkgo was shown at £0.0012 per 120 mg; the true figure is about 5.9p.

What was done

Each label was read on the retailer's own page and the extract mass per serving recorded (ginkgo: 240 mg from a 50:1 extract in a two-tablet serving). A rule was added so that a capsule or tablet said to contain several grams of a herb is no longer ranked but sent to the unverified list until a person reads its panel; that moved a cranberry, a garlic and a Lion's Mane complex out of the rankings. Powders are unaffected.
