What it measures
The test measures vitamin B6 as pyridoxal phosphate (PLP), its active form, in plasma or whole blood depending on the lab.
Why people test it
Measured when low intake or poor absorption is suspected, for example with heavy alcohol use or kidney disease.
Checked in people taking high doses, since too much B6 over time can cause numbness in the hands and feet.
